California Anchorages

Little Harbor; Catalina Island, California

When we were there

October 2014

Anchor Spot

Where we dropped our hook:

33º 23.1203′ N 118º 28.5641′ W

In around 20 feet

Holding

Sand bottom, good holding.

Set a stern hook to keep bow towards mouth of bay and into the swell.

Dinghy Landing

Easy beach landing.

The reef at the mouth of the anchorage protects the beach in most weather conditions.

Amenities

None.

There is a campground near by. The campers may or may not let you use their outdoor shower (it’s cold) and fill up with some water.

Activities

  • Beach games
  • Snorkeling
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Surfing

Safety

Very safe.

Use common sense, do not leave things out in the open or on the beach over night.

Weather

While we were there, the weather was warm, but the wind did switch. Because we did not put out a stern hook, Prism swung and was very close to the braking waves over the rock reef that protects the anchorage.

Transportation

None.
